Artist's Description

Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) was an internationally popular Mexican painter. She used vibrant colors in her paintings that often depicted the indigenous cultures of Mexico but most of her works were self-portraits. I am intrigued with Frida Kahlo for many reasons. Obviously, I relate to her in that she was a female Hispanic artist, but also because she embraced the naturalness of her body, allowing her facial hair to be what it was. I love her use of color and adornment in her work as well as in her personal dress. She married Mexican muralist Diego Rivera but the marriage was a rocky one due to his infidelities. After their divorce Frida painted a picture called, "Two Fridas" to show the duality of who she had become to please Rivera and who she really was. This is my homage to that piece.Victoria de AlmeidaSanta Fe, New MexicoEmail: vickiejean2001@yahoo.comWebsite: www.VictoriaDeAlmeida.com2012 All rights reserved

I have always loved art and have wanted to become an artist for as long as I can remember. My primary medium is acrylic on canvas. I have also enjoyed using acrylic on wood as well. As a self-taught artist, I really fight looking at something when I'm painting or sketching. I love just allowing my work to evolve organically. My preliminary sketches are...
