Artist's Description
Living in northern New Mexico we have a beautiful rich Spanish history. The Spanish settlers have established this area for over 500 years. I absolutely love the images I have seen growing up of Spanish ladies wearing the traditional Spanish combs in their hair with the lace mantillas elegantly draped over. The Spanish man in my opinion is so handsome! The long wavy hair, goatee and Castillian nose are especially attractive to me. Oh and by the way they happen to be cats as well! I've name them Isabel and Tomas for my mom and dad Betty and Tom Shinas!
About Victoria De Almeida
Through my work I always hope to tell a story about my personal experiences as a Hispanic woman. I was born and raised in the beautiful state of New Mexico and my family has been in northern New Mexico for over 10 generations. My work comes from my memories of growing up in a large extended family and my favorite subjects to paint are the people and traditions of northern New Mexico. I have always loved art and have wanted to become an artist for as long as I can remember. My primary medium is acrylic on canvas. I have also enjoyed using acrylic on wood as well.
